When I was thinking about a new series, there were so many ideas that came to mind. At the same time , I was listening to all old Hindi and Bengali songs and I thought why not create something that would bring back memories of those days of beautiful cinema and evergreen music. But then I also wanted to make sarees that would remind us of our mothers and grandmothers, draped in crisp , paat paar cotton sarees in simple block prints during the pujo mornings. What we would call “pujor halka shaj”. Those cottons that would become extra soft, “nyata” is the word , over time and smell of turmeric and masala as moms would wipe their hands on the pallu while cooking or we would dry our hands after a sumptuous Sunday meal as mom cleared the table. This series then had to be named “Abhinetri”, inspired by yesteryear heroines and of course the heroine of our lives, Maa. We wish that this series finds a place of love in every wardrobe, hence this is the most budget friendly collection we have made so far. Make the most simple saree the most treasured one this Pujo.
    • Sweet & Savory
“Pujo asche” two words to bring out a plethora of emotions . Goosebumps and adrenaline rush, the booming voice of Shri Birendra Krishna Bhadra , the beat of dhaak , the soft fragrance of shiuli . And pujo means pujor khawa dawa of course . Launching the first of our pujo edit “Sweet & Savory” . Pandal hopping and munching goes hand in hand. Little this and that to curb the hanger pangs and sharing small joys with friends and family. How about pandal hopping this pujo with your loved ones, draped in a fun saree with quirky prints of your favourite gastronomic temptations while you delve in the guilty pleasure of munching on them!

Gaye Holud Ceremony: How Sarees from Bengal Keep the Tradition Alive

The wedding season is the embodiment of different colours. Come winter and you are sure to sport some of your best sarees in weddings. Considered to be one of the most popular rituals in Bengali marriages, the gaye holud ceremony evidently embraces yellow. In Bengal, also known as the destination for weaving cotton, the attire of the bride during this ceremony needs to create that fantastic impression with beautiful and bright cotton sarees.

That is why you need to get authentic Bengal cotton sarees in Kolkata. At Dora By Phoenix, we have stepped up with hand block prints on Begumpur cotton for this year’s gaye holud ritual. The deep yellow colour with red border and hand block print is among our avant-garde collections for winter weddings this year.

Begumpur Cotton and Gaye Holud Ceremony: Blending Colours and Happy Minds

A hint of this and a dash of that on yellow sarees presents the iconic ceremony of gaye holud in a different light. While the married women in the family apply holud on the bride, it is lately turning into an occasion where the bridesmaids also feature prominently. For Kolkata cotton sarees online to be worn during this blissful ceremony, trust our Begumpur cotton sarees that do the talking.

The bride and the bridesmaids can choose attires in yellow or in contrast to rev up the lively spirit of the occasion. Keeping in mind the sarees to sport, one cannot ignore that gaye holud sets the stage for the wedding and brings in the first sensibility of a girl’s marriage in the family. So, you cannot go wrong with the saree chosen for this ceremony. To be honest there is no better saree to turn into than Begumpur cotton for its unique borders, exclusive hand block prints, the sophistication that the loose weaves lend, and the bright colours. When you buy cotton sarees online, just peek-a-boo at our season’s special sarees to make a mark.

Cotton Sarees Symbolises the Daytime Rituals

For the brides and the bridesmaids, wearing cotton sarees is more common for day occasions like gaye holud compared to the glitz and glamour of their evening attire. Naturally, they prefer going for cotton sarees online shopping compared to the shimmering silks that are right for the wedding day evening occasion. Whether it is to highlight the gaye holud convention or to celebrate the brightest and the biggest days in every woman’s life, it is all about showcasing cotton.

Shades for Gaye Holud

The gaye holud Bengali look should be essentially yellow to complement the occasion. Not only should you focus on shades of yellow in an online saree boutique for the bride but the bridesmaids as well to create a semblance. Or, if you want you can create a contrast with Beige and Red. Simplicity has always been the unconventional convention when it comes to the gaye holud ceremony and we have carried it further with our unique offerings of sarees with different components every year.

Still waiting to buy a saree for this blissful occasion? Why don’t you check in at Dora By Phoenix where traditional sarees with a hint of modern elements brings out the essence of Bengal and go gaga with our collections.
